113Tidbits: Closing In On Externship And Tough Choices

We're getting closer and closer to going on externship as a cardiac sonographer. The anxiousness of all my classmates has grown to a fever pitch. Being a more mature group of students with family and other social problems, brings more headache and worry. My main concern for right now is being able to find a job here in Florida in a hospital or cardiac lab. Many of the latest postings that I have seen are in the southern counties of Florida. Today, I found this Cardiac Sonographer position in Jacksonville:

Requisition # 5567
External Career Center Posting Start Date 11/13/09
Open Position Number - Title 00023219 - Echocardiographer
Location Shands Jacksonville
Shift Variable
Driver Status Will not operate a vehicle for business
Position Status Full Time - Regular
Pay Plan - Grade XNMG-14 Min: $22.90- Mid: $25.44
Department NonInvasive Cardiac Lab - 3131733000

Position Minimum Requirements Graduate of a cardiopulmonary program or ultrasound school for cardiac sonographers. Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer preferred. BCLS certification and graduate from an accredited cardiovascular program required. CCI or ARDMS required within one year of hire date.

This looks fine, but one particular issue that I take with this listing is that it is in Jacksonville. Unfortunately, this not where I would like to be. But of course, us unemployed medical students have no choice in the matter.
