Sallie Topete is challenging people to lose weight.
Not only is she challenging them, but she will also teach them the right way to do it.
Topete runs Herbalife's Weight Loss Challenge from her San Dimas home.
"Most of (the participants) are here for weight loss, and when you get your body nutritionally balanced, you will lose weight," the former aerobics instructor said.
The challenge encourages friendly competition between participants, who meet once a week to be measured and weighed.
Covina resident Diane Danton was one of these weight loss goal-getters, but was forced to call it quits due to pending surgery. According to Danton, she lost 8 pounds in just two weeks.
"Knowing that you're going once a week keeps you focused on your goal," she said. "My goal was to lose quite a bit more than I've lost. But it's got to do with better health."
Each week, those involved are taught something new about nutrition.
Because Topete is an Herbalife independent distributor, she encourages the use of the company's nutritional supplements. But she says it's optional. She supports any program the weight-loss challengers may be already using.
The cost of the 12-week course is $39. Out of that money, $25 goes toward the grand prize, which is awarded to the person who has lost the most weight at the end of the challenge.
